This collection captures our love and sentimentality for the beauty in the iconic, everyday items and places on the Northern Beaches which are “Iconically Us”. From my most recent solo exhibition at The Studio, Careel Bay in Avalon, 15% ($1105) was donated to Lifeline Northern Beaches.

Seven Miles From Sydney

Manly is described as the gateway to the Northern Beaches and a beloved spot for tourists and locals alike. The charm of ‘Seven Miles From Sydney’ is searching the layers of nostalgic sentiment that celebrates Australian culture by embracing the 1920’s Manly ferry slogan, historic photos of Manly and the iconic breakfast spread, Vegemite.

Drifting

Marine Biologist, Wallace J. Nichols states “Being near water allows us to access a semi-meditative state known as 'drifting'. Drifting is a special form of attention where we are engaged with the world around us but not focussed on getting something done”. This artwork captures the meditative feeling of drifting while the grounding of the collage gives us a sense of place and belonging.

Silent Auction

In the same style as ‘Ahoy’ and ‘Drifting’, this artwork will be an iconic scene of the Manly Ferry and Sydney Harbour Bridge. Winning the auction, has given the collector the opportunity to personalise the artwork by including collage that holds special meaning to them.

I recall my mum serving fish pie with piped mash potato in scallop shells as a fish course at 70’s dinner parties. Such a precious memory and perhaps one that influences my ongoing love of scallops to eat and their shells to paint!
